很久很久以前，來自遙遠星系的比克大魔王及其手下大猩猩來到地球為非作歹，無惡不作，令人民時刻被死亡的陰影所困擾。此后一群優秀的武術家研究出魔封波，將比克大魔王封印，世界重歸光明。
當代美國某座城市，看似孱弱不堪的青年悟空（賈斯汀·查特文 Justin Chatwin 飾）自幼隨爺爺悟飯（蘭德爾·杜克·金 Randall Duk Kim 飾）學習武術，但是爺爺禁止他將一身功夫用于好勇斗狠上面，所以悟空在學校飽受欺負與嘲笑。在一個毫無征兆的日子里，比克大魔王（詹姆斯·馬斯特斯 James Marsters 飾）意外復活，而悟飯則因此斃命。悲傷的悟空按照爺爺的囑咐前去尋找龜仙人（周潤發 飾）和七顆龍珠，以阻止比克的野心。有關地球命運的冒險由此展開……
